Born on January 12, 1973, Dave is the "middle child" of three boys (Tom Jr. the older and Brian the younger). Dave's father, Tom, ran his own electrical contracting business (Sanders Electric) in New Richmond and his mother, Debbie, was an Orthodontic Assistant for Dr. Johnson. Tom and Deb are now enjoying semi-retirement in Charlotte, NC. These days, Tom does electrical assessments for Habitat for Humanity in Charlotte. Deb volunteers at the local elementary school as a tutor and works for a local farmers market a few days a week during the summer. She also keeps busy with her two grandsons.
Tom Jr. and his wife Tammy also reside in Charlotte, NC where Tom Jr., along with his brother Brian, run their electrical contracting business, Avian Electric. Tammy is an activity and logistics coordinator with Freedom School Partners.
Brian and his wife Amy and their two sons, Guthrie and Sammy, also live in Charlotte. Brian works with Tom Jr. in their joint business venture, Avian Electric. Amy has her own successful pottery business, There There Pottery.
Dave was raised in New Richmond, Ohio and attended Monroe Elementary, New Richmond Middle School, and finally New Richmond High School. While attending New Richmond High School, Dave played four years of soccer and tennis. However, Dave never lost sight of the fact that he was a student. In his sophomore year at New Richmond, he was selected to attend Boys State. Dave was a National Honor Roll scholar in his junior and senior years. He carried a 3.89 GPA in his senior year and upon graduation from New Richmond had several scholarships to choose from. Dave ultimately elected to attend Heidelberg College on an academic scholarship where he majored in Business. In his junior and senior years at New Richmond, Dave played first doubles for the tennis team. However, his passion was soccer. During that same time Dave was also chosen as captain of the varsity soccer team and played midfield. He went on to play soccer at Heidelberg. There Dave was moved from the midfield to the wing as a forward.
On September 29, 1993, Dave tragically succumbed to a brain tumor. Just a few days earlier, he was playing soccer and studying for exams. There was no indication to either his family or friends that anything was out of the ordinary.
Dave is gone now but will never be forgotten. Because of his thoughtfulness and generosity others prosper. Dave was an organ donor! In his death he saved the lives of four others. His kidneys, lungs, and heart were all given unselfishly to improve their lives. Please consider being an organ donor and contact Life Line of Ohio for more details
